Help with History Essay Thesis Statement?

The second one is better, in my opinion, because it has a cause-effect type set up that you can then easily prove with historical evidence. The first thesis is somewhat unclear as to what exactly you're going to try to prove in the body of the paper. After reading that second one, however, I know exactly what you're going to talk about.
