Help with a VERY dodgy iPhone signal?

I have an iPhone 3G S on O2. i recently moved from a place with perfect 3G signal. in the new place, I get an 'o' signal, which I presume is GPRS or '2G'. it won't connect me to the web during the day, but it works (fairly fast) at midnight onwards through the early hours. what's wrong with it??
