Is it rude to ask for sauce on the side at a restaurant?

I would presume it's not bad to ask for salad dressing on the side, but what about actual sauce for a main dish like stir-fried vegetables? Is it a big deal for the sauce to be put on the side then? Would I be seen as a rude customer if I were to ask for my meal with sauce on the side?
