Difference between psychoanalytic literary theory focusing on character and reader response?

Psychoanalytic theory is that which specifically relates to Freud's theory of mind and his practice of psychoanalysis - the Oedipal complex; the id, ego and superego. The psyche itself it not 'psychoanalytic'. It's separate to reader response theory, but it can be applied with it - so that you would be psychoanalysing the reader's response to the text rather than psychoanalysing the character.
